MUD MAN

I opened my eyes and there was no one.

Only my Maker with sovereign hand

A bold sure voice resounding in the land

Never a fickle flicker wherever he roamed.

I opened my hand and reached for the formless fog

The mistiness gave way to o’er there the hog.

And somewhere here the swallow

In all, there was not a grip like mine

A handy-shake to confirm my doubts

I opened my mouth and there came vanity

A soothing emptiness from my own head

A solid thickness of muse and question

A sin matched by no other natural call

For only the hard raw nature sang back

Made the winding path an emptier track

My Maker being too far beyond my mind’s hall

I opened my arms and nature’s thorns grew tall

From those prickers would emerge

Dark veiled arms of happenings

Soothless soothers

Embraces of erratic fortune

Renderers of sleepless rest

Stubborn reminders of my own garden frowning on my love

I opened my gait and sole clasped land

Each fresh step meant tether and bother

Want began and ambition sprung

This friendless paradise would not do

A walking sleeper I was to become

If I stayed any longer here till the third dawn

So I walked to the gate and asked for another.

One who would walk with me and clasp my hand.

Meet my embrace and doubt my doubts

Dream my dreams and smile my smiles

All the while impatient to wait for eternity

So…

The Maker opened the gate

And formed a mirroring shell

Imbued her with all of the garden’s riches

Bliss and terrifying beauty alike

She, I would wander blindly beyond the lush gate with.

Until this sordid dream would come to its inevitable end.
